"At RESILIENT PEOPLE we tell stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things".
What you just read is pretty close to the site's mission statement. Now let me tell you why this site is important to me.
My name is Janet Fanaki and I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, volunteer, and freelance PR specialist. I love getting the news of the day, purging and tidying closets, designer fashion for its ability to make me dream, travel and hearing stories.
I'm a firm believer that you're only as strong as the people who surround you.
In 2016, our family was hit with some devastating news. My husband was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
It's been over two years since that awful day. We underwent surgery and months of radiation and chemotherapy, and happily he continues to live a normal and vibrant life. We are so grateful.
Our support circle gave us lots of love and support in the form of many hot meals dropped-off at the door, rides to appointments and a listening ear which was priceless. Thank you all!
I have always gravitated to strong, resilient people. Little did I know that they would be the ones that I'd want to create a website about, to inspire others.
We spent many hours in the cancer centre waiting room, and I would look around and wonder how other people manage stresses in their lives? What helps them? How do they move forward? And what would they tell others to empower them?
I took my background in PR and created a website where I interview ordinary people who have overcome major challenges. This is how RESILIENT PEOPLE was born.
Some of the people you will meet are a teenager with autism who is a world-renowned artist, a man who created a foundation to comfort cancer patients in the wake of his wife's passing, and a woman who became an outspoken HIV and AIDS advocate when her husband passed away from the disease.
Their stories, traits and characteristics are so inspiring and motivational.
This started as a cathartic side-hustle for me, and has now become a mission to continue introducing you to more of these amazing people.
Do you know someone who should be profiled on the site? Please get in-touch through the social or email icons below. We want to hear from you!
I hope you love meeting these amazing people as much as I have loved talking with them.
